WhatsApp Biometric Authentication lock screen bypass a Bug in iPhone

At the beginning of this month, Facebook-owned WhatsApp made an update to their iPhone Chat app, which includes a feature of supporting biometric authentication using Face ID or Touch ID. Now, it has been said that there is a bug in implementing biometric authentication in the app. Due to which anyone gets access to your WhatsApp without going through the touch ID or Face ID. WhatsApp has accepted the bug, which allows anyone to access the Face ID and Touch ID additional lock on the iOS version of the app. Instant Messaging Company said that it will soon resolve this issue.

Reddit user de_X_ter said that when you select an option other than "Immediate" in the WhatsApp screen lock setting then a bug is displayed. The list of options can be found in Settings> WhatsApp Settings> Account> Privacy> Screen Lock, if either "Face ID is required" or "Touch ID is required" is enabled. According to the de_X_ter, Bugs can duplicate itself by doing these steps:

  • "Go to the iOS share sheet in any way.
  • Click the WhatsApp icon on the iOS share sheet."

If you did not change the activation time in the screen lock setting for WhatsApp, then this bug will not affect you. If you think that "WhatsApp screen lock settings screen is better to return, you can select "Immediately" to avoid getting a bug. In WhatsApp notes, it is ideal to set the screen lock kick-in time immediately, if you prefer to use biometrics on the WhatsApp in iPhone. Other options make WhatsApp vulnerable to bugs. There is currently no similar functionality in WhatsApp for Android
